HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR NEWBORN SESSION
- Give your baby a bath the morning of or the night before and put lots of moisturizer.
- Put clothing and diaper on loosely to avoid red marks.
- Dress bubs in a onesie that is easy to take off (larger size if possible).
- Please do not put a singlet on your bubs. If it's cold, wrap them in additional blankets instead.
- If you live within 45 minutes drive fro my studio, give your baby a full feed before you leave home.
- If you live further than 45 minutes from my studio, you can feed bubs when you arrive.
- If nursing, try to avoid eating anything spicy (ie. pizza, hot sauce, etc) or anything that will cause gas and might upset baby’s tummy for 24 hours preceding your scheduled session. A gassy baby will not pose well during the session due to their little tummy being upset.
WHAT TO BRING
- Bring lots of Bottles and formula if you are not breastfeeding. Babies tend to eat a lot more during the session than they would do at home. They will require more milk than there normal scheduled feeding.
- If possible, bring some expressed milk in a bottle if you are breastfeeding.
- A change of clothing in case baby has an accident on you.
- Bring Lotion or oil for your baby in case they have flaky skin.
- Snacks & Ipads for older siblings.
- I recommend you bring a pacifier/dummy even if you do not plan on letting your baby use one.
- If your baby becomes unsettled in a pose often a dummy will calm them enough to continue without having to get them up and re-pose them all over again.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE SESSION
- The golden rule of newborn photography: babies are unpredictable! At just a few days old, a regular feeding, sleeping, and potty schedule is out of the question. I understand this, and as a result require 1 – 2 hours blocked out for posed sessions.
- My usual workflow contains a timeless setup, a prop setup, 2x digital composite setup and 2x family setup. I do a bonus naked setup if bubs is a good sleeper at the end but is not always guaranteed.
- Sibling shots and poses are always attempted with my best efforts but not guaranteed as we all know how toddlers can be sometimes.
- The studio is kept at room temperature for the comfort of the parents. I have a small dyson heater that I set at 24 degrees for when I'm wrapping bubs and have it blowing at them if they are naked.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOUR SESSION
- Your gallery will be edited artistically to match my style of photography and presented to you as an online gallery approximately one week later. It will come with instructions on how to download both high resolution files for printing and web resolution files for sharing.
- Please note that I only do light skin edit and color adjustments. If your baby has severe jaundice or newborn acne, individual special request edit will be needed. If you are concerned, please have a chat with me.
WHAT TO WEAR – FAMILY PHOTOS
- For Mum – light/pastel coloured top or dress. Make-up should be classic and clean. However, your foundation can be quite thick as these photographs well and helps me to smooth out your skin in post-processing. Hair the same – loose is best. Have your hair either straightened or curled/waved depending on your style. If you wish to have professional hair/makeup done, I can provide a few suggestions but you’ll need to arrange for that yourself.
- For Dad – light/pastel coloured top, Jeans/khaki pants are recommended.
- For the boys – Jeans or Jean Shorts and a plain top or shirt (without patterns or logos)
- For the girls – A nice dress or I also have some in the studio that can be used.
PROPS & SPECIAL REQUEST PHOTOS
- I supply all of the backdrops, props, hats, headbands and wraps for the session. If there are sentimental pieces of props you'd like to use, please let me know in advance.
- If there are certain props or poses you absolutely love (from my photo gallery, not other photographers), be sure to mention it on or before your session date so I can prioritize it.
- I do not attempt poses that are not found on my website as newborn safety is my uttermost priority and some photos found on the internet and Pinterest contains unsafe posing.
